HPLC/GPC training course ‘Get more out of your HPLC and/or GPC’

We cordially invite you to an exciting 3-day training course ‘Get more out of your HPLC and/or GPC’, on November 28-30, 2023 in Breukelen, NL.

Reason

The reason for organizing this event stems from a common observation in the field: often users are not fully aware of the extensive capabilities that HPLC and GPC/SEC offer for determining things like mole mass and size of components. Your HPLC or GPC/SEC system is often capable of providing more information than you may suspect.

Aim

During this training course you will have the opportunity, under the guidance of two renowned experts, namely Dr. Christian Dauwe of AppliChrom and Dr. Klaus-Dieter Bures of WGE Dr. Bures, to discover how to take advantage of the various aspects of these analytical techniques on the basis of a practical example with gummy bears, including packaging. This will cover the following possibilities:

  • Determining low molecular weight components using HPLC
  • Determining high molecular weight components via Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC).

We will teach you how to determine the identity, concentration, molar mass and molecular size of different components taking into account various factors such as the type of chromatography column, measurement conditions and detector type.

Using a practical example with gummy bears, including packaging, low and high molecular weight components are determined.tector.

In addition, we will update you on the latest developments in HPLC and GPC/SEC to keep you fully informed about the capabilities these analytical techniques have to offer.

We look forward to seeing you at this valuable training! Undoubtedly, it will help you take your knowledge and skills in HPLC and GPC/SEC to the next level. Register and discover the unprecedented capabilities of your analytical systems!

Program: (*)

Day 1 Basic HPLC and GPC
Day 2 GPC and SEC (advanced)
Day 3 Calculating exact mass using GPC/SEC (advanced)

(*) It is possible to register for one or more days.

Cost (including lunch and coffee, tea, soft drinks)

  • 1 day   € 500
  • 2 days € 750
  • 3 days € 950

How to Reduce Interferences for 69 Elements

Inorganic Ventures will provide you an insight into their kitchen on Thursday, July 1, 2021, between 15:00 -16:00h (Amsterdam time).

In a webinar, the chemists at Inorganc Ventures will walk you through the creation of calibration standards. In doing so, they take into account chemical compatibility and potential interference issues.

How to reduce interferences for 69 elements?

Furthermore, the capabilities and limitations of the ICP-OES instrumentation are discussed, including sample introduction systems and axial versus radial views. You will learn how to prepare a diverse population of samples to avoid detailed matrix matching. Finally, we discuss the data Workup process and demonstrate how user-generated interference tables are used to interpret your data.

This presentation will discuss the design of the test method used in the lab for Custom CRM products. This ICP-OES method is a good example of the process you can follow in creating methods in your lab for solving your unique challenges.

Inorganic Ventures’ Quality Control department is responsible for the daily testing of all Custom made Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) to ensure product accuracy. Inorganic Ventures’ CRM library contains over 65,000 different products and is still growing every day. A robust ICP-OES testing method is required to ensure the accuracy of nearly all Custom CRMs.

Takeaways:
1. You will learn how to create ICP-OES calibration standards that account for chemical compatibility and interferences.
2. We’ll share the best options for sample prep when you’re dealing with lots of samples
3. You will learn how to make manual corrections for spectral interferences.
4. We will explain how to extend the calibration range and still get reliable results.

Webinars on sensory properties of plastic packaging and cosmetics

Consumers are very critical when it comes to the sensory properties of plastic packaging and cosmetic products. Think, for example, of plastic bottles for drinking water and the smell of creams. Producers anticipate this as much as possible by matching their products as closely as possible to the scent preferences of the consumer.

For this purpose, they work with scent panels to randomly test products on scent and visual attractiveness.

However, there are limitations to panel surveys:

  • Hundreds of test persons are needed for a representative study
  • A human being can do a limited amount of testing; after a while, noise appears in the data, even in sensory-trained persons
  • It is not possible to compare data from surveys over time

Our partner Alpha MOS is specialised in instrumental solutions that analyse the sensory profile of plastic packaging and cosmetics, among other products. A scent profile is made of the products and special software is used to correlate it with the consumer’s preferences. In this way, the instrument can learn what the consumer likes and dislikes. Reversed engineering is also possible to analyse competing products.
